Chapter 1.11: A Little Old-Fashioned Scrying **NSFW**

Maru found Lilith at the pool on the beach the next morning, where they’d agreed to meet. She was staring off to sea when he came up behind her.

“Why so blue,” he asked her, vaguely concerned.

Lilith looked down. “Hey babe. I’m not blue. I was just waiting for you and wondering when Shane will be getting back.”

“Shall we take a dip in the pool?” Maru changed the subject, tugging at her skirt.

They splashed around in the pool. Maru told her of some events that had happened while she was gone, carefully avoiding any mention of Kaila.

She leaned back against the edge of the pool, and Maru thought she still looked …tired? No, I know her, she’s pensive about something.

He gathered her in his arms, and they floated in the pool, waves lapping around them. His hands moved to cup her hips. Lilith looked like she was about to say something, but Maru hushed her with his fingers over her lips. His other hand slowly massaged her breast. Gazing intently into her eyes, he felt her relax and arch ever so slightly into his palm. His mouth curved into a smile as he bent to nuzzle her neck.

Supporting her with one arm, his other dropped into the water. Lilith groaned as his fingers filled her.

“I’ve been wanting to touch you since you got back,” he said.

Opening her eyes, Lilith smiled. “I just got back last night!”

In answer, Maru lifted her to his hips.

After, Lilith settled back in the water, her eyes again roving out over the sea. The sun was lower in the sky. Maru dragged her out onto the sand, and Lilith was surprised by his hunger when he took her again, thrusting forcefully.

She laid her head back in the sand and waited for him to finish.

Some time later, Maru finally headed back to camp.

Lilith stayed behind on the beach. It started to rain, and still she sat there.

She was a little sore from Maru’s…enthusiasm. It had been nice. Good, even, but otherwise? She realized she felt empty. Her response, she reflected, had not matched his aggressive need for her.

I don’t know if I want this, she realized glumly.

I wanted butterflies.

It was going to be a gloomy night.

On the way back to his camp, Maru crossed through the Community Center, where he ran into Kaila. “How are you doing?” he asked sincerely.

“I’m doing well, thank you. I hear Lilith’s back.” She gritted her teeth at his answering grin.

“Yes, and she brought back all kinds of stuff from Champs les Sims. We spent the day together today.” He paused, trying to read Kaila’s inscrutable face. “I hope you know I didn’t mean…”

She put her hand up. “What are friends for? Don’t worry about it, ” she said. “If you need me for anything, I’m always here for you.” And with that, she turned and left. Maru blinked after her.

Let him chew on that entendre, she smirked.

Kaila had been unable to resist sending that jab to Lilith the other night at the Community Center. And sometimes she soothed Maru with mood enchantments to lighten his spirits.

Thus far, though, Kaila had withstood the urge to meddle with spellcasting; manipulation often backfired or had unintended consequences.

Tonight, Kaila went to her fires for a little old-fashioned scrying.

She saw Lilith’s unrest. And she saw a ship sailing to the island.

And she saw that by the full moon, Lilith would no longer be an obstacle.

Smiling, Kaila kissed her wand, then turned for home.
