1.24: Please Say Yes

“I love you too,” she whispered. They lay in a relaxed tangle of arms and legs. Lilith couldn’t ever remember feeling happier than these past few weeks. She felt cherished, and she loved Shane so much. She didn’t think she could feel any closer to him than she did right now; it was so right it almost hurt.

“Hey,” he said,  softly kissing her cheek where a tear caught the light. “Why are you crying?”

“Because I’m happy.”

He snugged her even closer, tucking her against his chest and kissing her hair. He felt her lips press against his collarbone. Stroking her shoulder, his mind floated. Yesterday he’d gone down to the cellar and hauled out one of the crates he brought back from France, digging out the little box which was even now stowed under his bed.

It was just a matter of determining the right moment now: he had decided to ask her to handfast with him. He wanted her to be his wife, his helpmate, and hopefully the mother of his children. I want to spend the rest of my life with her.

But bringing it up in bed was probably not precisely the right moment.

The next day, they lay curled up in front of the fire as snow drifted down beyond the overhang of the shelter.

I’m so in love with her, he thought, looking into her eyes. I can see my future in her eyes.

She leaned her forehead against his neck, and he sighed as his arms went around her shoulders. In the weeks since she’d told him how she felt, he marveled at how much closer they’d gotten. They were already so good together, so easy. It was surprising the difference spoken words of love made, how mutual love transcended what already existed. I should ask her right now.

Lilith interrupted his thoughts, leaning her head back again to look up at him again. He took the opportunity to steal a kiss, and her lips curved into a smile. “I have an idea,” she said.

“What’s that?”

She shifted, sitting up and facing him. “You have some grapes now that are good enough to make nectar with, and I know that’s what you really want to do. I got parts for a nectar maker when I went to France, before you got there. I think we should go get it from my camp and set it up here, so you can start trying your hand at nectar.”

“Are you sure?”

“Of course I’m sure,” she said. “I got it on a whim anyway. I tried making nectars while I was in France and they came out barely a step above awful, but I thought some of the villagers might like it. And I’d rather you have it than anyone else. I know you want a vineyard, that’s the whole reason you came to France.” And I’m so glad you did.

Oh but I want so much more, he thought, still searching her face, his mind only half on the nectar maker. Her expectant gaze brought him back to focus.

“That sounds great sweetheart. Thank you. But can we wait until tomorrow to go get it? I really don’t want to let you go right now.”

He looked so serious. She felt a wave of emotion flutter through her for this wonderful man who loved her. “That’s fine, we can go tomorrow or the next day. I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be right now.” She snuggled back against his neck.

The next morning, Shane rose early, letting Lilith sleep. He tended his plants, and stood looking at them. “If it weren’t for Lilith, you wouldn’t be here,” he told the plants. Her idea of using planters under the shelter had allowed him to continue working with his small garden. Some of it, anyway; there were only so many plants he could fit indoors without it being too crowded.

Looking around his camp, he realized Lilith was already transforming it into a home, leaving her little touches everywhere. She’d put the snowblossoms in a vase, setting them on a side table. They’re so pretty, she had said as she arranged them. They make it feel more homey.

He peeked in the bedroom and could see she was still sleeping. Having sweet dreams, I hope. The woman in his bed certainly made this feel like a home.

Yes, today is the day. He strangely wasn’t nervous. Well, maybe a little, he thought. This is life-changing. Ok, so I’m nervous. But not scared. This is the first day of the rest of my life.

He decided to keep her occupied as much as possible during the day; he didn’t want to get side-tracked by going to get the nectar maker yet.

He went down to the cellar, bringing up some foods and fruits from Champs Les Sims, and carefully chose a couple bottles of good nectar.

When he looked in on her again, Lilith had kicked off the blanket. She was still sleeping, with a sweet smile on her lips. Putting down the food outside, Shane decided that keeping her distracted could start right now.

He ran a hand over her breast, massaging it slowly, then slid his fingers down her arm to tug on her hand.

Opening one eye at him, Lilith rolled over and smiled up at him. “Why don’t you come back to bed?”

“Well, if you insist,” he said, not at all reluctantly.

She pulled him down onto the bed and climbed on top of him.

I’m not sure who’s distracting who, was his last coherent thought for awhile.

Awhile later, he teased her into a snowball fight, then rolled her over in the snow for a lengthy, leisurely kiss. When she went to rinse off and change clothes, he hurried to set out the food and nectar, arranging and rearranging until it looked perfect.

Her eyes widened when she walked toward him. “What’s all this?”

“Dinner,” he laughed and handed her a glass of nectar, “What does it look like?”

They ate, then sat by the fire sipping nectar until the sun set. To Shane’s surprise, a full moon began rising over the sea. Yes, this is right, he thought, remembering the full moon of the night he’d first kissed her months ago.

“Lilith, I’ve been thinking about something,” he said.

“You’re always brooding about something,” she smiled.

He smiled too. It was true.

He took her hands, leaning up on a knee to look up at her face. “Lilith, Lil. I love you,” he said earnestly.

“And I love you,” she replied.

Shane hesitated, searching for the right words to express himself. He felt her fingers tighten around his.

“I truly love you, with all my heart. These past months have honestly been the happiest I’ve ever been. And when I look at you, I see everything I want, and I see my future. Our future. Lilith, will you be my wife? Share your life with me. Please say yes.”

Her breath hitched. She saw nothing but sincerity in his face. Closing her eyes momentarily, she could see it all. A home together, a life together. Babies. Grandbabies. “Yes. I say yes,” she said, feeling tears in her eyes.

Shane had tears in his own eyes as he slipped the ring on her finger.

Her eyes widened in shock when she recognized the gem. She held up her hand, her other clapped to her mouth.

“The star opal!”

He nodded. “I had it set before I left France.”

She remembered well the day they had found the opal, in the abandoned nectary in Champs Les Sims.

“I didn’t think I would ever have a chance with you. But I’ve loved you since then,” he said thickly, remembering the day she left France.

“Kiss me,” she said.

::sniffle:: I actually got tears in my eyes when I wrote that Shane did 😀

Coupling pose pack by Skylar, with some use of the tipsy OMSP.

Lilith’s poses as she’s waking up are from the Sunny Morning pose pack by Cloud9.

We Heart It, by Skylar.

The proposal pose is from mypalsim.

Their poses at dinner are from Zhippidy’s beach set, I believe.

And a ton of others, I didn’t write them all down, sorry.

It amused me greatly how well Shane played along with this chapter! Lilith woke up this particular morning with a wish to get married. And Shane decided on his own to keep her busy with a little morning lovins, and then asked her to move in later that day! All without me even having to switch to his character to boss him around 😀  I had to cancel the action, though; it locks my game for some reason when sims accept moving in with other sims. Besides, I want to get her things from her lot first. But let’s say she said yes 🙂

Another shot of the ring. Yeah yeah, I’m not the best with photo editing 😛

Their dreams this night were extremely cute!

A possible ending I had was Shane carrying her to bed. I ended up cutting it because the chapter is already long. Looking through my screen shots, I found this one a little creepy. Look in the background on the right. That’s Kaila. I wonder how long she’d been standing there watching.

This chapter was a little longer than usual, but I hope it was worth it <3
